Finding Lost Dogs - Animal Behavior 8

Xenophobic (Fearful) Dogs
Having developed fearful temperaments due to genetics or their experiences as puppies, these dogs are more likely to:

  • Travel farther and be at a higher risk of being hit by cars
  • Actively seek quiet locations in which to hide
  • Respond to other dogs
  • Appear "abused"
  • Run from their own owners if spooked

Rescuers may be reluctant to contact owners fearing the dog will be in for "more abuse."
